Qianxsia is a long-term reporting initiative. It traces the disconnect between the Earth system’s ecological limits, and the core dynamics of consumption-driven capitalism, dominant since the 18th-century Industrial Revolution. As human societies have caused planetary-scale climate change, biodiversity collapse and natural ecosystems disturbances, Qianxsia grounds its work in Asia, at the collision point of the world’s most populous consumer market, its largest factory floor, and its preeminent fossil-fuel hub.

Founded in 2026 by journalist Sebastian Castelier, Qianxsia adheres to the core principles of fact-based reporting, and maintains transparency through sources openly cited. Its documentary reports seek to document the systemic trends underlying current events, beyond the short-term rhythms of the news cycle that dominate public discourse despite rarely matching the slower pace of social and environmental transformations.

Qianxsia believes the people closest to a story should be able to access it in their own language. Our long-form documentary reports and podcasts are published in the local language of the country they cover, and in English for audiences worldwide. Qianxsia draws its name from qiān xū, a Chinese word denoting modesty and self-effacement. In Chinese culture, these virtues reject treating others as superior, and prompt individuals to recognize their limits and continue learning.
